About Us

Step Up New London is a Black and Brown parent-led organization that fights for equitable solutions that address injustices our community experiences in accessing quality education and housing.

Through opportunities for leadership development, community building, and political education, SUNL supports its members in exploring how systemic oppression and racism have shaped our homes and lives.

Together we run organizing campaigns utilizing our people-power to advance our solutions and demands.

October 2017

We hosted the first Understanding & Undoing Racism/Community Organizing Workshop in New London, CT, in over 10 years. Parents, students, and allies from SUNL, the NAACP New London Chapter, Safe Futures, FRESH New London, All Souls Unitarian Universalist, Hearing Youth Voices, and more participated in this 2 ½ day workshop. This workshop marked the beginning of our standard of developing an understanding of the dynamics of internalized, institutional, and systemic racism to help in areas of setting priorities, making decisions, and creating system change
